We fade to grey

I don't know if it's a preference of yours, but to me you always shy away from having a wide variety of values(?) in your work, which leaves features weaker and a struggle to look around your pic.

I've fixed your pic up on PS on what I think it should be like: http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/3071/idiotm.jpg
Easy job, just pushed the levels inward, and tweaked the colours where the contrasting butchered them.
This has made the eyes piercing, emphasised colder shadows on the face and flaunts your brush strokes.

idiot-monarch responds:

Idk, I think that what you did with the pic is a bit extreme, but I do agree that the values in my pics are off. Even though I wanted this piece to be gray, it does all blend together too much.

Oh great.

Christ, this is awful. Apophysis can prodice so nice fractals, but this is the opposite end - some guy shifting and making triangles with no purpose, and producing something at random.

No form.
No pattern.
No colour.
Tripe.

MarshmallowGherkin responds:

Thank you so much for your /constructive/ criticism.
However, sadly, I disagree with you.
Sure the fractal flames I make aren't the best, but you are severely outnumbered when it comes to these accusations you have made. Everyone else from the various sites I have posted this on have commented on the great combination of form, colour, and pattern; all these things you claim I have forgotten.
Once you change your screen brightness from 1 to 100, please verify that you can see the infinitely repeating swirls, shapes, and patterns, as well as the interesting gradient and obvious shell-like shape.

Please think before posting useless reviews. I don't mind criticism at all, but make sure it is indeed constructive.
Thank you. :)

aye

Without a shadow of a doubt, its the bottom one. The radial speakers and the colour do it for me.

The text is a struggle to read, tho. Maybe get rid of the drop shadow and put a border round it, so it's more constrasted?
Maybe replacing the squiggly border with the bars from the back of the 2nd concept up?

mraw responds:

thanks, glad u like the latest, its gone to print already tho. i made some slight changes before, ill upload the new one
cheers for the feedback

Adore this

Nevermind the calendar contest, I can see this on someone's wall as a poster.
Like the rest of your art collection, deliciously stylised, yet with Dan Paladin blood running through it.

jouste responds:

awesome!

thanks for that 10 turkey, your stuff is super great. i really hope your piece gets in the calendar, it's super.

and dan doesn't know it but i've hired a thousand mosquitoes to go to san diego and steal his blood and bring it back for me to use!

thanks for the 10 pal!

*highfives*

Yo

Thanks fella :) Means a lot.

BTW, those splash effects, colours and the font you've chosen are brilliant.
(I really, really like the background).

J-qb responds:

Youre welcome, Splash effects is just some nifty brush work, and well the font I wont need to help you with, I think (1001font/dafont/...)
Also, It took me quite some time to think of a way to have an actual turkey on a stick, without it being shoved up his ass....

Damn she's a sexy chick

Ahh i see what you did there.Think you've picked a great idea for lvl 49.
I like the eyes, the hand holding the arrow, the shading on the knees, and the imaginative way you've supported her knockers.
Reading Kagoe's review, I now get the vibrant background, but the tree silhouettes are a bit dominating.

Great stuff, fella.

LegolaSS responds:

come on... level 49 was made for her!... i have to agree.. the eyes and hand holding the arrow are my favourt parts, i wanted her to fade out a bit at the bottom... but i rather like it how it stand *no pun intended*... of course... been all natural and all... you need to find a natural way of support... dont want them getting in the way when your about to fire an arrow.. :S... i just quickly whipped out some old symbols from animations i were working on, gave them the neutral green tint and wacked in the green newgrounds aura as a background behind it all... i wanted to make sure that the aura theme stood out as well as her... but yeah... i could have toned down the green... mabey adding a white mist over the top so it wasnt so bright... something to keep in mind for the future!...
